Nepal's King Gyanendra calls for elections
but main political parties reject the offer,
news reports say
Nepal's King Gyanendra on Thursday night reportedly called for
general elections.
The King reportedly said that the general elections are the best
way to exercise multi-party democracy in a meaningful way. In
a short statement broadcast on Nepal Television, he asked political
parties to resolve all issues through dialogue, saying the process
of dialogue is always open to activate multi-party democracy system.
His call for general elections came as opposition's general strike
entered eight day on Thursday.
But Nepal's main political parties reportedly have rejected an
offer by King Gyanendra to participate in talks, saying the King's
offer contained nothing new and protests would continue, media
reports said.

Italy is in state of political confusion during election
results declared so far
Italy reportedly is in a state of political confusion during the
election results declared so far as the margin is razer thin -
and voter turnout was high. More than 83% of the electorate cast
a vote, news reported.
The foramtion of a new government will have to wait until the
election of a new president next moth, media reports said.

UN chief Annan urges bold UN reform
UN Secretary General Kofi Annan reportedly has urged world leaders
at an UN world summit to take bolder steps to fight world poverty
and to persevere on UN reforms.
Reportedly he told the UN World Summit, the members' deal on reform
package was a good start, but differences had prevented progress.
"We have not achieved the sweeping and fundamental reforms which
are required", reportedly Kofi Annan said.
The three-day summit marks 60th annivery of the world body, which
began on Wednesday.

Leaders of India, Pakistan reaffirm commitment to
settle all issues peacefully
India's Prime Minister Dr.Manmohan Singh and Pakistan's President
Pervez Musharraf reportedly reaffirmed their commitment to peaceful
settlement of all issues, after meeting at the UN world summit.
The two leaders also reportedly agreed to allow act of terrorism
to impede the peace process.
Dr. Singh accepted an invitation from Pakistani President Musharraf
to visit Pakistan.
India and Pakistan began peace talks last year. India also opened
talks with Kashmiri separatist leaders this month.
Both leaders expressed their commitment to ensure peaceful settlement
of all pending issues including Jammu and Kashmir to the satisfaction
of both sides, according to a brief statement issued after the
talks, media reports said.

In Delhi, India-EU summit declares to fight terrorism
and to build trade links
In Delhi, European Union(EU) and India issued today a joint political
declaraton after India-EU summit led by India's Prime Minister
Dr.Manmohan Singh and UK Prime Minister Tony Blair, saying the
two sides will work closely to promote effective multilateralism
and strengthen UN peacekeeping and peace building through exchanging
best practices and engaging in joint training.
The joint declaration said New Delhi and EU will establish a security
dialogue on global and regional security issues to fight terrorism,
and also discussions on disarmament and non-proliferation.
Reportedly they also agreed to establish a high-level trade group
to explore ways of increasing bilateral economic flows, including
discussions on the possible launch of bilateral negotiations on
comprehensive trade and investment agreement.
For the summit, UK Prime Minister Tony Blair is leading the EU
team in trade talks with India.
A large group of British business leaders accompanied Prime Minister
Blair on his visit to India.
India's expansion is predicted to be strong 7% this year.
Britain and Europe are keen to play a part in India's economic
expansion.
There is a heavy security for Mr. Blair's visit. The roads outside
his hotel and the summit venue have been sealed and armed police
officers deployed, media reports said.

Kashmir peace talks showing a historic step
to resolve the issue
The recent meeting between Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan
Singh and the moderate wing of the Hurriyat conference seems to
be a historic step and peace talks are welcomed, said observers.
Reportedly Pakistan also welcomed the current meeting, saying
it would strengthen the peace process between India and Pakistan.
Many observers believe, it is now necessary to stop violence in
the region for peace, therefore, reportedly Dr. Singh said he
would reduce troops in Kashmir if violence and inflitration by
militants came to an end.
Reportedly the recent meeting between Indian Prime Minister Dr.
Singh and the moderate wing of the Hurriyat conference lasted
for nearly three hours in Delhi.
The prime minister also reportedly agreed to review all cases
of detention and said that the government would take all necessary
measures to safeguard against human rights violations, according
a government statement, media reports said.

Malaysia seeks more immigrants and allowing
former illegal workers back in the country
Malaysia is reportedly seeking for more immigrants and relaxing
immigration rules to allow former illegal migrant workers back
to the country.
Reportedly, it has set up centres in Indonesia, where most of
the workers came from, to speed up their return as legal employees.
Malaysia will now allow Indonesians to enter the country on tourist
visas without the promise of employment, to seek work once they
arrive in the country, news reports said.

India gives its approval to overseas Indians to aquire
overseas Indian citizenship
India's Union Cabinet reportedly on Thursday gave its approval
for amending the citizenship Act 1955 to enable all persons of
Indian origin who migrated to other countries after January 26,
1950 to aquire overseas citizenship of India.
Reportedly the Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan
Singh, also gave its approval to amend the Allocation of Business
Rules and to allow Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs to issue
notifications under Section 7B(1) of the Citizenship Act and issue
smart cards to registered overseas Citizenship of India.
However it would not be applicable to all persons of Indian origin,
their children and grand children, who migrated to Pakistan and
Bangldesh after January 26, 1950.

ministers in London reaches
debt relief deal to alleviate
global poverty
The two-day meeting of G8 finance ministers in London reached
a landmark debt relief to alleviate global poverty.
The deal was announced at a meeting of G8 countries' finance ministers
in London.
The UK, which will host a Summit of G8 leaders next month, has
vowed to make poverty reduction a priority.
The G8 countries are the United States, Canada, Britain, France,
Germany, Italy, Japan and Russia.
Twenty seven countries are eligible for debt relief under highly-indebted
poor countries.

EU and China textile trade talks end
Eurpoean Union and China textile trade talks between- reportedly
have ended with an agreement, which could settle the ongoing strife
over textile deal.
Reportedly talks came ahead of a summit which began with UK Prime
Minister Tony Blair and Chinese President Hu Jintao.
Mr.Blair reportedly said the strategic partnership between two
was vital.
However, reportedly the deal still has to be agreed by 25 member
states, which are split over effects of the quotas.
Mr.Blair reportedly told media that he thought he was reasonably
optimistic about finding a solution to the textile problems, widely
dubbed bra wars after one of the blocked categories of clothing,
media reports said.
Reportedly talks are aimed at easing a backlog of millions of
Chinese-made sweaters, trousers, bras and other garments.
The two sides opened talks after EU halted imports of Cinese texttiles
goods which had breached strict quota limits agreed earlier in
the year.
Reportedly the limits were designed to protect Europe from a flood
of Chinese imports.
In mean time, the EU quotas are beginning to hurt China's clothing
manufacturers.
China is selling more clothing to Europe than ever before-abot
£4.5bn (6.5bn euros) in the first half of this year alone, almost
same amount as in all of 2004, media reports said.

Foreign students face UK visa charge rise
Students coming to the UK from outside the EU countries reportedly
to face a rise of 136% UK visa fees under the government plans,
media reports said.
UK visa part of the Foreign Office-reportedly said increasing
the charge from £36 to $85 is necessary because of growing demand
and administration expenses.
But universities in the UK reportedly said foreign students were
being used as "cash cows", news reports said.
They were estimated to contribute about £10.2 bn a year to the
national economy and £4bn to higher education, said media reports.

UK retail sales slowdown
UK retail sales reportedly continue slowdown, news reported today.
Reportedly despite a brief 0.7% revival in sales during January's
bargain hunting season, the underlying trend is looking weak.
Retail sales have fallen at their fastest pace in two years, media
reports said.
